Exciting news for Vienna residents! The Vienna Community Action Committee (VCAC) has officially partnered with township trustees to bring the community’s first-ever collaborative garden to life. This initiative, one of the top requests from residents, aims to provide a space for growing fresh produce, fostering community connections, and supporting local organizations.
How It Happened:
Originally, VCAC planned to use land at Vienna Presbyterian Church, but logistical challenges led them to seek township-owned property instead. While the trustees couldn’t donate land due to governance rules, they enthusiastically agreed to lease it to VCAC for just $1 per year under a two-year agreement.
What’s Next? VCAC is now evaluating township land options, including a parcel on Anderson Street that requires some clearing. The next steps involve finalizing lease agreements, setting garden guidelines, and mobilizing volunteers to prepare the space.
Why This Matters
Beyond just gardening, this project will serve a greater purpose by benefiting community initiatives like the Vienna Food Pantry and Mustangs Care food distribution program. Residents will also have an opportunity to engage in gardening even if they lack the space at home, supporting mental, physical, and social well-being.
VCAC is grateful for the township’s support in making this historic project a reality. Stay tuned for updates on how you can get involved in creating Vienna’s first-ever community garden!
